Obama will go to Democratic fundraiser

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is heading to a fundraiser that's expected to raise $3 million for Democratic House and Senate candidates.

Obama plans to stop by an event later Thursday to benefit the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Those two committees defend Democratic incumbents and support candidates seeking congressional seats.

It is Obama's latest move to help his congressional allies defend majorities in both chambers on Capitol Hill. The president's popularity has helped his party raise millions since the November elections.

Obama is expected to deliver remarks at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington in the early evening.
