Actress Jessica Alba will not be cited in connection with the shark posters she admitted plastering in downtown Oklahoma City, police said Monday.
Police had been investigating Alba after a blogger posted pictures of her plastering posters of sharks downtown, including on city property and a United Way billboard, earlier this month. The actress, who is in Oklahoma filming a movie in Guthrie, apologized for her role in the incident.
"I got involved in something I should have had no part of,” Alba said in a written statement sent to The Oklahoman. "I realize that I should have used better judgment, and I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”
Police Master Sgt. Gary Knight said Monday the investigation into Alba’s actions was closed because owners of property damaged by the posters declined to pursue charges.
He said closing a case without issuing a citation "is not at all uncommon in property crime cases where the victim does not want to pursue charges.”
City Parks and Recreation Department workers noticed posters of sharks on utility boxes June 5, police said. Blogger White Mike posted photos on a shark conservation blog that depicted Alba putting the posters on the billboard and city property.
Posters were placed on United Way and Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. property. The groups said they weren’t interested in pressing charges.

Jessica Alba regrets shark signs
Actress Jessica Alba apologized Tuesday over the defacing of city property and a United Way billboard with posters plastered in the downtown area last week.
"I got involved in something I should have had no part of,” Alba said in a written statement sent to The Oklahoman. "I realize that I should have used better judgment, and I regret not thinking things through before I made a spontaneous and ill-advised decision to let myself get involved with the people behind this campaign. I sincerely apologize to the citizens of Oklahoma City and to the United Way for my involvement in this incident.”
Alba is in Oklahoma filming a movie with co-stars Kate Hudson and Casey Affleck. Work began in Guthrie last month.
City Parks and Recreation Department workers noticed posters of sharks on utility boxes June 5, police said. Blogger White Mike posted photos on a shark conservation blog that apparently depicted Alba plastering the posters on the billboard and city property. The photos were later removed.
According to his blog, White Mike travels the United States "shark sniping,” or placing the posters in an effort to bring awareness to dwindling great white shark populations.
The Parks and Recreation Department filed a complaint with Oklahoma City police Tuesday after employees saw the photos, in part thanks to a posting White Mike made on the social networking Web site Twitter with a link to the photos.
Alba’s attorney apologized to the United Way of Central Oklahoma on Alba’s behalf Tuesday afternoon, but Oklahoma City spokeswoman Kristy Yager said late in the afternoon that no one had contacted the city on Alba’s behalf.
"We find it unfortunate that Ms. Alba chose to vandalize a United Way billboard,” United Way of Central Oklahoma director Bob Spinks said.
"A local media partner, Lamar Advertising, donated the board to us and we feel badly that their contribution has been damaged in this way. We are certain that she didn’t mean any harm as she has since apologized.We are committed to serving the people of central Oklahoma and we remain focused on our work rather than this minor distraction.”
United Way spokeswoman Erin Brewer said Alba’s attorney, Warren Dern, left the organization with the impression Alba will make a donation to the charity.
A city worker trying to remove one of the posters from an electrical box Tuesday was struggling even when using power tools.
"I don’t know what they used (to plaster the posters on),” said the worker, who did not give his name.
"It may have been Gorilla Glue. That Gorilla Glue is some serious stuff.”
In addition to the posters on city property, including an electrical box at Stage Center, the online photos appeared to show Alba pasting a poster on a Bricktown bridge and posing in front of the United Way billboard, which was partially covered with one of the shark posters.
Yager said vandalism is a crime and it really doesn’t matter if someone thinks it’s for a good cause.
"It’s still an eyesore in the community,” she said.
